The Abduction Of Rebecca Analysis - 708 Words
Eugà ¨ne Delacroix takes on his own unique style and adds the most striking elements of the sublime Romantic style to every masterpiece. The Abduction of Rebecca is an oil on canvas in Paris that Eugà ¨ne Delacroix painted in 1798ââ¬â1863 after his trip to Morocco. He was inspired through a novel written by the French Romantics author, Sir Walter Scott. It is a story about the Jewish heroine Rebecca, who had been confined in the castle of Front de Boeuf. In the painting, the fortress is in flames and she is being carried off by two Saracen slaves under the command of the covetous Christian knight, Bois-Guilbert. This is just one of the paintings by Eugà ¨ne Delacroix that model the Romantic era. Romantic music inspired two smaller movements: nationalistic music and music about legends. Richard Wagner (1813-1883) is a German composer who wrote many pieces on the basis of a story or myth. He revolutionized opera through creativity, discontent with musical formulas and his focus on drama. Of the many great composers during this era, Wagner stood out to me because of the intensity of his composition from 1851 in ââ¬Å"The Ride.â⬠The song pulls at my emotions in a theatrical telling of a battle scene from which warrior maidens emerge. These women are attendants to Odin, who sought out the souls of those heroes lost in battle. The Norse myths story is told through the feelings I experience when I hear this composition. The tempo is fast and amped. It pulls me into the sounds and I want to hear what happens next. I feel the announcement of these heroic soldiers and the challenges they fought through. It starts fast, lightens up, and then comes back with stronger build up. I feel the drama in the battle as if itââ¬â¢s happening in front of me. There are moments while listening where I caught myself holding my breath. This draws out feelings of enthusiastic anticipation which reminds me of the music written for a screenplay. The song finishes with a final, proud, horn blast and then leave me with some tension in the fast-paced ending of thrills.
