The story begins with the main character Madame Mathilde Loisel. She is the charming and tall lady, did not belong to the wealthy family. She always dreamed to be rich and live the life like wealthy people. She dressed simple, as she cannot afford expensive dresses. She marries to a clerk and works with the Minister of Education. He was not wealthy, but in good condition that he can keep her happy. He is simply honest and hardworking person.
